In a matchup of 5A Central Conference rivals, the Parkview Lady Patriots defended their home court with an assertive 47-21 win over the visiting Maumelle Lady Hornets. The Lady Patriots, now 3-7 overall and 2-0 in conference play, displayed an aggressive defense and fast-paced ball movement that left the Lady Hornets struggling to keep up.

First Half Fireworks

Parkview wasted no time establishing dominance, jumping out to a 21-5 lead by the end of the first quarter. Junior Kristyn Cooper set the tone early, scoring eight points and contributing two assists and two steals before halftime. She was supported by senior Naomi Sharpley, whose scrappy defense and leadership kept the Lady Hornets off balance.

By halftime, Parkview had tallied 26 points, 13 rebounds, and a staggering 11 steals. Their defensive effort was relentless, forcing turnovers and converting them into points. Meanwhile, the Lady Hornets struggled offensively, managing only 10 points in the first half. Sophomore Ava Fowlkes led Maumelle with five points, three rebounds, and a block.

Defensive Dominance Continues

The Lady Hornets showed signs of improvement in the second half, holding Parkview to just five points in the second quarter and limiting their scoring to 21 points after halftime. However, Parkview’s defensive intensity never wavered, as they added nine more steals to their total, finishing the game with 20.

Cooper continued her standout performance, finishing with 14 points, two rebounds, two assists, and an impressive eight steals. Fowlkes fought valiantly for the Lady Hornets, scoring a team-high 13 points, including two three-pointers, and hitting three of four free throws. Despite her efforts, Maumelle’s 21 total points highlighted their offensive struggles against Parkview’s suffocating defense.

A Glimpse of Potential

From start to finish, the Lady Patriots controlled the game. Their aggressive defensive play and ability to capitalize on turnovers proved to be the difference. While Parkview’s offense slowed slightly after their explosive first quarter, their defense never gave Maumelle a chance to mount a comeback.

For Maumelle, the loss highlighted areas for growth but also offered glimpses of promise. Fowlkes’ performance continued to showcase her potential as a rising star, and contributions from teammates like Elaina Flakoll (3 points, 4 rebounds) and Karleigh Blunt (7 rebounds) indicated the team’s willingness to fight until the final whistle.

What’s Next

Parkview looks to build on this momentum as they head into a tournament matchup against the Springdale Lady Bulldogs on Friday, December 27, at 2:30 p.m. Meanwhile, Maumelle will regroup and prepare to face the Jacksonville Lady Titans on January 7.
